So you are considering the incredible region of Puglia in the south of Italy, to hold your destination wedding? I can assure you that this region in Italy will really surprise you. I remember visiting Puglia for the first time in 2015 and falling in love with its small villages and amazing natural landscape by the sea. On this post I will highlight what Puglia has to offer so you can organize the most amazing experiences to your guests.
Puglia’s beautiful caves
This region is on the Adriatic Sea and, due to the rocky formation of its cliffs, there are more than 80 caves with unique beauty that can be visited by boat. Some of these caves host charming hotels and restaurants, such as the famous Grotta Palazzese in Polignano a Mare. Enjoying a meal here is a very exclusive experience. How about arranging a pre-wedding event for your guests here? Pasta, seafood with local olive oil and great wine make the simple Apulia cusine a gastronomical experience not to be missed.
Puglia is also famous for its masserias
These are old olive plantation farms and nowadays they receive visitors for a tour of their premises and even for lodging to experience the rural lifestyle. A day in the countryside is also an unforgettable experience to include in your itinerary with your guests. The most interesting masserias are in Lecce, Ostuni, Savelletri, Martina Franca and Locorotondo.
The beach lifestyle
As for the beaches, the best beaches in Puglia are in the area of Salento. The region has crystal blue waters with great rock formations. It is great for gathering guests on a beautiful day of sunshine and to enjoy the “il dolce far niente” of the Italian culture. If you would like to enjoy the beach lifestyle in Puglia you should consider the months of May and June or September for your destination wedding. And I would avoid the months of July and August when the beaches are crowded and the temperatures are pretty high.
Another area not to be missed is the picturesque village of Alberobello
Here you will find its conical roof houses called Trulli built mainly in the 19th century. These typical houses were once used as shelters or storehouses for the agricultural laborers. Nowadays many of these small houses were transformed into boutique hotels like the charming Le Alcove where you can sleep inside an authentic trulli house and enjoy the Apulia gastronomy.
