Choosing an engagement ring is a very serious matter. The bride will probably wear it every day until the wedding day. After that she may wear it at special events and finally she will keep it forever as a family jewel.
With so many choices in the market it is true that choosing your engagement ring is not a simple task. For that reason, I have prepared this special post with some things to take into consideration when choosing your ring.
The brands the brides love the most
One of the most important aspects when choosing an engagement ring is comfort. The engagement ring needs to be comfortable, beautiful, and above all match your style! Brands like Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron and Bulgari certainly need no introduction and are a reference when it comes to jewelry for life.
Who chooses the ring?
Apart from the cases when the ring is a family jewel and there is no choice to be made, nowadays the choice is made by the couple. Differently from a few decades ago when the groom chose the ring by himself. Today, the bridal couple go to stores to try on different rings and look for references together.
There are several items to be taken into account when choosing a wedding ring
First, think of the material. Traditionally engagement rings are made of yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum. Some models come with more than one material, such as white gold with details in rose gold for example.
And it’s time to choose the diamond
This is probably the most important item of the ring. When it comes to the diamond there are a few denominations I will talk a lot here. They are: cutting, purity of the stone, color and carat.
Which diamond cutting is your favorite?
When it comes to diamond cutting, there are several options out there. The “brilliant diamond cut” is perhaps one of the most well-known cuts and is considered the ideal one, as its 57 facets reflect as much light as possible. The brilliant has a round shape and it is probably the most known shape for a diamond. Other diamond shapes are the heart, the pear, the oval and the emerald. It is true that choosing the right shape is something very personal. I particularly love the shape of the emerald diamond, which is rectangular and pretty imposing.
The colors of a diamond
Did you know that diamonds have colors? Well, I’m pretty sure many brides are not aware of that.
Diamonds occur in a variety of colors such as steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. Colored diamonds contain impurities that cause the coloration whereas pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless.
The colors are graded in letters ranging from “D to Z”, where D represents the most colorless stone and therefore of the best quality. Consequently, colorless diamonds are the highest in value.
Do you know what carats are?
A crucial point that greatly influences couples when choosing a ring is the diamond carat, which is the weight of the stone. Each carat is equivalent to 200mg of diamond. So, it is clear that the higher the carat of the stone, the greater the investment of the ring.
